Rom Dances

 

SANI RIFATI is a master of the the tarabuka (hour-glass shaped hand drum) and a superb dancer in the Rom style. He happens to be the cousin of Esma Redzepova, the "Queen of Romany Music", whose signature song "Chaje Shukarije" opened the film "Borat". Sani is the most active U.S. promoter of the world's top Rrom performing artists, and arranged the debut 2006 U.S. tour of the Rrom orchestra "KAL" as well as the 2007 tour of Yuri Yunakov Orchestra.

 

Lyupco Milenkovski

LJUPCO MILENKOVSKI was a three-time gold medalist on the kaval (shepherd's flute) at the annual Dolnensko-Prilepsko Folk Festival in Macedonia and is the last and best student of the legendary Mile Kolarov. He is also a master of the gajda (bagpipe).

CHRIS BAJMAKOVICH is a talented young Macedonian-American musician who excels as a vocalist and as an accordionist. He was part of Ilija Ampevski's critically acclaimed ensemble which wowed the audience at the 2004 Chicago World Music Festival and is in demand around the US.

 

James Stoyanoff
Clarinet
JAMES STOYANOFF is of Greek-Macedonian ancestry, a master of the clarinet, and performs and teaches Greek, Macedonian, and Turkish music. He studied clarinet with such masters as Karakos, Halkias, Anestopoulos, Gündeger, and others. His most recent project is the research and revival of the classic Macedonian starogradski style of "chalgija" music.
